The Story

It’s the not so distant future and babies are now grown full term in clinics all around the world. These clinics reproduce the exact experience a baby would have in the mother’s womb, right down to hearing her voice and heartbeat. And now, having a baby is like getting a new vehicle, made to order. Imagine choosing if you want a boy or girl, the color eyes or hair.

Well you get the idea.

It’s the future!

/// Mr & Mrs Todd discuss starting a family. ///

A FAMILY

(wife) Which way should we go, should we wait
Wait a little longer / I’m feeling old and you’re not
Getting any younger / Sometimes at night I awake and I’m having the same dream again
A girl with your eyes and her hair looks like mine
Asks me who she is / And then it ends

(husband) I think about you and me sometimes
I daydream that someday in our lives
We could be a family
A little girl would mean everything to me

(wife) I hear the loan rates today are better now than ever
We’ll go apply right away, better now than never
We’ll have her grown by the best Bendall’s Clinic
He’s affordable too / By the time she arrives we’ll have read all the books / We’ll know what to do
We’ll name her Jonnie after my dead father, God rest his soul / And we can choose the color eyes so definitely she’ll have yours / And my hair
(husband) I’ve thought about a family before
(wife) dreamed about it all night
(husband) It might be something good
(wife) motherhood sounds alright
(husband) the thought kind of scares me in a way
(wife) kiss our baby goodnight
(husband) we could be  / (both) A Family

(both) Then we agree it should be, we’re going for the big one / Soon we’ll be 3, you and me
And Jonnie will be our sun
When she arrives we’ll take leave for a week
From our jobs so that we
Can adjust to the change get to know our girl
Life will go perfectly
(wife) You’ll see

GOD REST MY SOUL

Lies, they’re all lies
He grows them in an empty room and turns out the lights
Why, Why ask why?
I gotta couple hungry kids and I gotta provide
Well, he pays well
The benefits outweigh the fact that this job is hell
Leave? I’m gonna leave
Just as soon as I pay off my bills and
have what I need

Never try to reach out never get too close
All those innocent lives, just forget about those
Can I live with myself, will there someday be blame
Will it wash off my hands, or has this blood stained

Screams, I hear screams
Every night I go to sleep they come in my dreams
Eyes, it’s in the eyes
I’ve noticed when they leave here that their eyes have no light / empty dark eyes
It’s hard to know God rest my soul
(God rest your soul)
I might explode God rest my soul
(God rest your soul)
These seeds may grow, God bless their souls
But they grow cold, they grow cold
I know they know       (you know we know)
I know they know       (you know we know)
I know they know / I know they know
God forgive my soul
(God forgive your soul, God forgive your soul)
God forgive my soul
(you know we know, you know we know)
God forgive my soul

WONDERFUL THING

I was lucky that day
And ever since I’ve been around you
You’re all I know, you’re all I know
You tell the stars to come and go
And every day that goes by I feel a little closer

It’s a marvelous day
Couldn’t ask for any better
It’s all going my way
And ever since we got together
You’re all I know, you’re all I know
You tell the stars to come and go

Only by chance
Fate winks her eye
Gives you a dream
Keeps it alive
So it survives the test of time the rest of time

You’re all I know, you’re all I know
You tell the stars to come and go

It’s a wonderful thing loving you
It’s a wonderful thing loving you

You tell the stars to come and go
You tell the stars to come and go

It’s a wonderful thing

MONDAY'S CHILD

Monday’s child, she’s got a fever
Tuesday’s child, she’s a deceiver
Wednesday’s child, has got a lot to say
Thursdays child, she’s in a bad way
We want to know, we want to know.
We want to know, we want to know
Friday’s child, is getting colder
Saturday’s child, he feels a little bolder
Sunday’s child, is so alone and scared
We want to know, we want to know.
We want to know, we want to know

Where are we now / Do I have a mother
I’m so alone / Could you be my brother
And will I ever know love
Will I ever feel love, love

Losing control out of my soul,
I’m losing my soul, it’s out of control
I don’t like it here, I don’t like it here
This place is scary, I don’t like it here

This place is very scary
Losing control out of my soul,
When I get out, gonna let ‘em all know
We want to know, we want to know. Hey!
We want to know, we want to know

Where are we now / Do I have a mother
I’m so alone / Could you be my brother
And will I ever know love / Will I ever have love
Will I ever feel love / Will I ever know love
Will we ever feel love, love. Will I ever feel love love
Will I ever feel love. Love love love love.
I’m scared. Me too.

HANG ON

I’m just a little bit afraid, would someone tell me it’s ok
I gotta hang on, hang on
It’s almost time, they’re coming for me
Gotta hang on, hang on
I’d love to hear her whisper to me,
’m just a breath away from you now
Where is the heartbeat I should know
(it’s really cool down here)
this silence echoes through my soul
(nothing but atmosphere)

(I’ll bring you joy and pain)
I’ll bring you joy, I’ll bring you pain
(and life won’t be the same)
And life will never be the same
(and you will teach me to)
And you will teach me to be you
(learn what’s right and true)
And I will learn what’s right and true
(and I think you feel me now)
And I want to feel you now
(yes I feel you feel me now)
Yes I need to feel you now
I gotta hang on, I gotta hang on

I gotta hang on, hang on
It’s almost time they’re coming for me
gotta hang on, hang on
I’d love to hear her whisper to me
I’m just a breath away from you now
I got to hang on (hang on to me now)
I got to hang on  (hang on to me now)
I know they’re coming soon I got to hang on
 (hang on to me now)
Where is the heartbeat   (hang on to me now)
Where is the heartbeat   (hang on to me now)
Hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on
(hang on to me now)

I got to hang on
I’m just a breath away
I’m just a breath away
I’m just a breath away
I’m just a breath away
I’m just a breath

SAY GOODBYE

One of our clients called to say they’ve had
Financial troubles, seems that it’s real bad  “you’re breaking my heart”
They said we’re sorry but we can’t see

Say goodbye, say goodbye to Baby Jane
Tell her why, would you just try to explain

Unusual feet and colors not that good  “well damn”
This one has never grown quite like it should
We guarantee a healthy happy
Perfectly portioned cuddly baby so

Say goodbye, say goodbye to Baby Jane
Say goodbye, say goodbye to Baby Jane
Say goodbye, say goodbye to Baby, goodbye to Baby Jane

SAY GOODBYE REPRISE

Say Goodbye, Say Goodbye to Baby Jane

Losing control, out of my soul
When I get out I’m gonna let them all know
How could they
They let me die in here
I don’t want to love
I don’t want to feel
I want to break things
I want to hurt them
What’s so great about life anyway
Yeah, what’s so great about life anyway
I don’t like it here
When I get out I’m gonna let ‘em all know

“Mr and Mrs Todd!
You’re here to pick up Jonnie!
Congratulations new mom and dad.
Welcome to the best day of your life
She is the most perfect baby girl.
Let’s get you all set up and on your way home.

SOMETHING'S WRONG

Ever since we brought her home I’ve noticed that
She’s a little unusual
Jonnie don’t have friends or play like other girls
She’s a little unusual
Something’s wrong with Jonnie, Something’s wrong with Jonnie

Never been a child to hug or talk to you
She’s a little unusual
We’ve tried everything we can but can’t get through
She’s a little unusual
Oh something’s wrong with Jonnie, Jonnie won’t hug mommy

I don’t know what Jonnie wants
I don’t know what Jonnie needs
I don’t know what Jonnie feels
What could Jonnie’s problem, what could Jonnie’s problem be

What’d we ever do to Jonnie, What’d we ever do to Jonnie
Oh something’s wrong, Oh something’s wrong
Something’s wrong, something’s wrong, oh something’s wrong

She’s not gonna change and it’s obvious
She’s a little unusual
She’s not an easy girl to love, it’s hard on us
oh she’s… well you know how she is

Something’s wrong
Something’s wrong with Jonnie

DR. POWERS

(Mr. & Mrs. Todd)
Dr. Powers this is our child, Jonnie Todd, the girl we spoke of
From the time she was a baby, 15 years, she hasn’t shown love
Dr. Powers sometimes she won’t talk to us for weeks at a time
When she does it’s very naughty, full of mean sarcastic lines
We’re at the end of our ropes and we know it
If the girl cares at all she don’t show it, she don’t show it
We were hoping you could fix her,
do some psych rearranging
Maybe keep her here for just a little while
Try and change her

(Dr. Powers)
Mrs. Todd, Mr. Todd, we’ve got a case of embryonics
One in every million clinic babies grown
develop chronic
Fetal Octal Post Traumatic Vertal Gossick
Beckers Syndrome
In more laymans terms I’d say that it
was damaged goods you brought home
There’s no place for her here

This case is perfectly clear
I’m sorry these things appear
It’s like curing the flu
There’s not much we can do
You just suffer it through
Institutions aren’t cheap
But at least you could sleep without
these pressures you keep
Just between me and you
You could do well if you sue
That’s up to you

Nice to meet you, sorry that I couldn’t help you
maybe next time
Better luck and don’t forget to pay before you leave
thanks goodbye

VICTIMIZED

Feels like I’ve been victimized
Can’t help but to agonize
All they do is criticize
They don’t realize
Jonnie don’t want anyone
Touching her in anyway
I just want to leave, go anywhere, I don’t care
Jonnie don’t really want to live
Jonnie don’t got nothing to give to you
You stupid little people have I rocked your world
Should have had a son, are you having fun
Do you have a gun

Bang Bang do you have a gun
I can’t be what everyone expected
They don’t see it’s life that I’ve rejected
It’s a farce and all our souls are broken

You made me, I didn’t ask to be around
You made me, You made me
Your little dream’s a nightmare now
Your little girl’s a nightmare now
How’s it feel
You little creators you
Get me out of here

DAMN THAT GIRL

(husband)
Prime rates down today honey
Don’t think I can make much money
When no one buys the work gets slow
Damn that girl has got to go

(wife)
Mrs Martin called me up today
She said most likely it would rain
I made a special treat for you to eat
And oh that girl has got to go

(both)
Our kid is not intact
We want our money back
What’s that Dr. done to Jonnie

(husband)
I believe that we’ve been taken
Look at us, my hearts breakin’
How were we supposed to know
Danm that girl has got to go

(wife)
Mrs. Martin also said her son
Who is a Bendall baby too
he’s been in trouble with the law again
and oh that girl has got to go

(both)
Our kid is not intact
We want our money back
We’ll have him thrown in jail
We’ll fight him tooth and nail
Dear Dr. Bendall, Hey!
We’re gonna make you pay
What’s that Dr. done to Johnny

I'M ABOUT TO NOT COME OUT

It’s like I’ve always known
That I’ve never been like anybody else I know
Kinda strange how it grows
This enormous hole inside of me
That’s where I go
And I’m about to not come out no more
No, I’m about to not come out no more

What a shame, what a crime
I was thrown out to the wolves for being born sometime
So if it hurts you to see
This joke that you call me
If you can’t handle
What you made me be
Then leave me here
‘cause I’m about to not come out no more
YOU HEAR ME, I’m about to not come out no more

JONNIE FOUND GOD

Then Jonnie Todd was taken
Down to the police station
She spent the next 3 years in juvenile detention
Her parents sued and now they live like kings
Decided parenthood was not their thing
Did you hear, did you hear
Jonnie Todd
Did you hear, did you hear
Jonnie found God

Then Bendall, he went bankrupt
He closed the clinic right up
He wrote a book and just did talk shows for awhile
And now he’s practicing in Omaha
A lot of money buys a little law
Did you hear, did you hear
Jonnie Todd
did you hear our Jonnie, our Jonnie Todd

Jonnie still don’t love mommy
That Jonnie Todd
Did you hear
Jonnie found God

ROCKETSHIP

God’s got a rocketship it goes 14 million
miles a minute
It’s made of solid gold and there are waterfalls
And angels in it
He’s got a rocketship, you gonna fly in it
You better make your reservations
Now brothers pass the plate
Before it gets too late
I see some people at the station

God’s got a rocketship it goes 14 million
miles a minute
It’s made of solid gold and there are waterfalls
And angels
(It’s the latest)
You will think you’re in heaven

The fortunate few
Will it be you
Oh will you give yourself up
What will you do

He flies around, he flies around us
He flies around, he flies around and around us
God’s got a rocketship
He flies around and around and around
and around us
